UPDATE FEB. 2024 - All is still in production for the 4CD Book. There has been some issues with our CD manufacturer that have slowed down this whole process. We had considered cancelling the series, but we decided that would be a sad way to go out, as we have some of the best artwork and music we’ve ever done included in this series. So, hell or high water we will deliver. It’s tough to set an exact date on it at the moment, but all should be delivered sometime in the Spring of 2024. Thanks for the support and for your patience!

Lost Tribe Sound proudly introduces 'In The Octopus Pond', the first album in a series of four from Arrowounds, titled, the 'Therianthrope Series.' With previous works, Ryan Chamberlain has taken us through personal lows and bleak watery worlds in disrepair. However, 'In The Octopus Pond' sheds much of that skin and sets course for lush, green environments steeped in the bizarre. That said, this new material sounds more accessible than ever. The first entry in the tetralogy draws from a range of musical influences, Can, Bark Psychosis, Young Gods, Slowdive, Durutti Column, Seefeel and much of early 4AD.

Rather than tackle some inner monologue or global crisis with the album, ITOP is instead accompanied by an obscure short story and visuals just as fitting. As both Arrowounds and LTS would prefer to take some time away from heavy realities and make up our own.

For here it begins and circles back into itself…
In the days before the great boil, the earth was lush and green, cared for by a race of mystic octopoed. In acts of preservational instinct, many chose to build their temples high on top of engineered tumuli, weary of prior flooding and wildfires that drastically disfigured the landscape. It was here that these priests of arms who carved ornate reliefs into the great pillars of obsidian and bone, dug down seeking mineral deposits in the earthen abyss and found a gestating world beneath the below.

Consultations were made to the tree of disciples and offerings of silver were cast down in the shape of waves. For a thousand suns, a ritual of song and dance was performed as a prayer for passage and guidance. As clarity became its own darkness, the mystics sent their scholars into the formless and nameless below, with the intent of bringing language and agricultural knowledge to the bipedal clans that dwelled within. The cavernous gateway swelled with water, but curiously upon return had turned to oil, which clouded and deformed their minds, like a billowing parasitic confusion. Pyramidal antennas to the heavens were constructed, the deepest chambers containing cephalopodic architecture enshrining all nightmare forms of origin. Effigies to the gods of fever, fluidity, and flame decorated the enclosures, with the bodies of elongated serpents creating a cautionary lore in their astrological placements.

The spectral colours of science bled forth into trenches aligned with outer perimeters. Tentacled sects demanded monuments and flocks to observe, building worship in embryonic regions sculpted to divide. Flourishing from the mind's slow thaw, intelligence bloomed into violence and devouring itself willingly, set the skies alight and drew the mystics back up through the abyssal cracks. As spells pronounced to utter themselves for eternity were cast, a barrier was positioned in defense. No strange filament to light the abyss and all trails swallowed whole, the multitudinous sacrifices stretched membranes across all forms of crevice and cavern. Dancing in hypnotic swells and bathed in the serpent's glow, the earth became fierce and poured ash and floods into its sphere, giving birth to the onset of the great boil. The octopoed who once reveled in their wisdom and hubris, were now burying themselves beneath their own decaying monuments. Locking their wisdom and magic beneath mounds of backfill so that the earth would return to anonymity as the below began feeding its desire to rise.

This is an account of the mystic's rituals of sound and rhythm with the dichotomy of cranes and demons. In the octopus pond of labyrinthine gateways, all aligned with both prior and future conjunctions.

YEAR'S BEST ALBUM COVERS 2023 - "Arrowounds (Ryan Chamberlain) has a story to tell, which involves an entire colony of octopoid, building temples above the fires and floods. They develop a “tree of disciples,” which includes both Chamberlain and Keane, worshipping at the altar of psychedelica." - (Richard Allen) A CLOSER LISTEN

FAVORITE AMBIENT ALBUMS OF 2023 - LOW LIGHT MIXES

"There’s something in the rhythmic repetition, his almost trip hop stutter that lends itself to the ritualistic, and notions of worship, and the dreamy atmospheric quality of the music lends it a spiritual quality, providing the space you need to dive within and connect with your deity of choice." - (Bob Baker Fish) CYCLIC DEFROST

"Though there are plenty of precedents for what Chamberlain is doing here, there’s a cohesive vision to this record that proves intoxicating. In the Octopus Pond truly comes into its own when listened to as a whole, on headphones, at night. Dive in and drift away." - (Tim Clarke) DUSTED MAG

"This arcane setting is evoked through Cocteau Twins guitars, slow moving bass and drums and shuddering delays" - (Peter Hollo) UTILITY FOG

"The reference to the mollusc-populated body of water echoes in the dense sounds that rise above for a quick breath, only to be pulled back again into the void." - HEADPHONE COMMUTE
